China has sent the largest number of students – 87,895 (6% increase)

India is next with 19,750 (-25% increase) and

Nigeria third, with 18,020 (-1% increase)

Malaysia fourth with 16,635

USA fourth, with 16,485 (-1% increase)

Scotland has attracted 21% of international students, whereas

England has attracted 19%

Wales – 19% and

Northern Ireland – 11%

As per 2011-2012 International student numbers by subject area

Business and Administrative Science considered as the most sought program with 36% opting Engineering and Technology is the next program with 32%,

Computer Science – 22%

Law attracted 22% of the international students.

Students Accommodation

UK universities facilitate on-campus accommodation for all the international students for the first year. There will be an accommodation officer in every university who will allocate the accommodation that better suits your requirements and budget. As the demand for UK higher education is steadily increasing, students have to apply early for the on-campus accommodation. Else students can live in off-campus accommodation. Usually universities provide accommodation in residence halls, privately owned flats and houses or home stay with a UK family. Health Care and Wellness Living

International students have to get prepared for the extremely new conditions. It may be difficult to get personalized in the first few days.  From 6th April 2015 all students going to UK for more than 6 months has to pay for UK healthcare as part of their immigration application. The money collected by the Home Office will be passed to the health departments in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

For students the health surcharge will be £150 per year, payable upfront and for the total period of time for which they are given permission to stay in the UK. The same is applicable to their dependants and they pay the same amount as the main applicant. Any student’s visa or immigration application won’t be granted if they don’t pay the healthcare surcharge or the application will be delayed if not paid the right amount.
