📑 Student Visa Document Checklist

Here’s a list of essential documents required for your New Zealand student visa application:

✅ Visa Application Forms

  • Student Visa Application Form & Supplementary Information Form

✅ Identity & Personal Documents

  • Valid Passport (must be valid for the course duration + 3 months)
  • Passport-Sized Photograph (attached to the application form)
  • Covering Letter (explaining your study plans, financial support, and career goals)

✅ Offer of Place & Accommodation

  • Official Offer Letter from a recognized New Zealand institution
  • Guarantee of Accommodation from a university, private accommodation provider, or host family

✅ Financial Documents (Proof of Funds)

  • Tuition Fees for the first 12 months of study
  • Living Expenses for one year (NZ$10,000 per annum)
  • Payment Plan with evidence of access to funds for the remaining study period

✅ Academic & English Proficiency Documents

  • Academic Certificates & Transcripts (10th, 12th, Graduation if applicable)
  • IELTS/TOEFL/PTE Scorecard

✅ Work Experience & Other Relevant Certificates (if applicable)

  • Work Experience Letters
  • Any other relevant certifications

✅ Health & Character Requirements

  • Medical Examination (based on course duration)
  • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) (Required for students aged 17+ staying for more than 2 years)

🩺 Health Requirements for Student Visa

📌 If your course duration is between 6 to 12 months:

  • TB Screening X-ray and Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate Form (NZIS 1096)

📌 If your course duration is more than 12 months:

  • Full Medical Examination & X-ray
  • Medical and Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate Form (NZIS 1007)

⏳ Student Visa Processing Time

The processing time for your New Zealand student visa depends on your profile and risk category:

Visa Category Processing Time
✅ Positive Profile – Category “A” 15 working days
✅ Positive Profile – Category “B” 30 working days
❌ Other Student Visa Applications 75 – 90 working days

✔️ Factors for a “Positive Profile” Application:

✅ Strong Academic Record
✅ IELTS Academic Score of at least 5.5
✅ Verifiable Financial Support (with clear paper trails for any large deposits)
✅ Regular Source of Income for Financial Sponsors
✅ Relevant Course Selection Based on Previous Qualifications or Work Experience
✅ Good Health & Character Certificate

🔹 Additional Criteria for “Category A” Applications:

✔ Overall IELTS Academic Score of 6.5 or above
✔ Offer of Place in an NQF Level 7 or higher course

🏆 Visa Application Approval in Principle (AIP)

Once all required visa documents are submitted and reviewed, the New Zealand High Commission will issue an Approval in Principle (AIP).

🎯 Steps After AIP Approval:

📍 Within 1 month, you must submit:
1️⃣ Fee Receipt from the New Zealand Institution for the 1st year’s tuition deposit
2️⃣ Any additional documents requested by the High Commission

📌 Final Visa Issuance Time: At least 5 working days after submission of the above documents.
